The changing landscape of the oil and gas production industry is creating new challenges for operations data management. With new reserves being more difficult to find, the industry’s focus is shifting from Exploration to Exploitation. To fully realize the value of existing reservoirs and operational infrastructure, better operational data is required.

In the new paradigm of operational efficiency, data must be timely, accurate and accessible. Field systems such as field data capture and automation must interface with back office applications such as hydrocarbon accounting and technical data repositories. Issues include data validation, data quality, aggregation, connectivity, distributed computing, and business versus operation demands.
