Dr. Shahab D. Mohaghegh
Chief Scientist
With more than 15 years of experience, Dr. Mohaghegh is a pioneer in the application of Artificial Intelligence and Data Mining (AI&DM) in petroleum engineering, applying hybrid forms of neural networks, genetic algorithms and fuzzy logic to smart wells, smart completions, and smart fields as well as to drilling, completion, well stimulation, formation evaluation, reservoir characterization, reservoir simulation and reservoir management.
Dr. Mohaghegh's role as Chief Scientist
Prior to joining Merrick Systems, Dr. Mohaghegh worked at the West Viriginia University where he published more than 100 technical papers and was granted and completed more than 22 projects budgeted at $6.5 million.
He has been a technical editor/reviewer for various Society of Petroleum Engineers journals as well as other petroleum related publications including the Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, Computers & Geosciences, Geophysics, and Energy & Fuels. His technical articles on the application of AI&DM in the oil and gas industry and their recent developments have appeared in the Distinguished Author Series of SPE's Journal of Petroleum Technology (JPT). He is also a SPE Distinguished Lecturer for 2007-2008.
Dr. Mohaghegh holds a Bachelor of Science degree and Masters of Science degree in Natural Gas Engineering from Texas A&I University and later earned his Ph.D. in Petroleum & Natural Gas Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University.
